Chevrolet Beat Launched In USA As Chevrolet Spark At $12,995 USD or Rs. 6.5 Lakhs

Gone are the days when people used to flaunt their brutal SUVs and now its time to think smart and in favor of the environment. Chevrolet Beat, our very successful small car, is sold in US under the name Chevrolet Spark and 2013 Spark has been launched at the New York Auto Show. General Motors, the top seller this year, is betting big with the Spark as according to the firm the fuel prices are soaring at a rapid rate and small cars/hatchbacks are the ones that will take the charge now.
The Spark launched a day before is not the couple version and instead is a five door variant which is sold in India. The car now joins the existing league of small cars such as Fiat 500, Scion iQ, and Smart ForTwo

GM Working On Compact Chevrolet SUV

Chevrolet Compact SUV photo
Opel unveiled the Mokka compact SUV at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, which sent the rumour mill in a tizzy, about GM launching a Chevrolet compact SUV in the near future. Now General Motors has filed for a design patent of a compact SUV, pictures of which have been leaked by L’Automobile (a French magazine). The patent drawing reveal a compact SUV, which draws heavily from the Captiva in styling but also some cues from the Opel Mokka. The Opel Mokka will be sold as the Vauxhall Mokka in select markets, but neither will the Opel badge, nor will the Vauxhall badge be brought to India in the foreseeable future.
On close observations of these patent drawings, one can understand that GM is making a mini-Captiva which will be vital for the company to increase its sales in developing countries. India is an SUV loving country and the recent unveiling of the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport has generated alot of interest from prospective buyers. In such a scenario it will be utterly foolish for GM to ignore this lucrative segment. We are extremely confident that this compact SUV will make its way to India in the next couple of years.
General Motors will offer this compact SUV in both front-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive versions. The Chevrolet compact SUV will most likely use the same platform as the Opel Mokka, which is named as the Buick Encore for the North American market. We can expect a 1.4-litre petrol engine on the Chevrolet compact SUV for India, which could be the same powertrain that will power the Sail sedan. The diesel engine will be from the Enjoy van, which uses the same tried and tested 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet engine. Expect a price of less than Rs. 10 lakhs for this compact Chevrolet SUV.
The Chevrolet compact SUV will be a 5-seater and measure around 4.3-meters in length. But GM won’t have it so easy as by the time the company launches this crossover, Renault’s Duster and Ford’s EcoSport would be well accepted in the market. Maruti Suzuki would have also launched the production version of its XA Alpha compact SUV, while Skoda could too have dropped its compact SUV in the market. The next few years then, are the years of the compact SUV in India. But how long will this compact SUV revolution really last?

Chevrolet TrailBlazer Headed To India

2013 Chevrolet Trailblaizer photo
The US based largest auto manufacturer of the world, General Motors has its presence in India under the Chevrolet brand. The Chevrolet models have been doing quite well in the small car and the sedan segment in recent times but the company doesn’t have a very strong presence when it comes to SUVs. Chevrolet, deciding to bring some spice into this segment has come out with its all new mid-sized SUV, the TrailBlazer. The TrailBlazer made its global debut at the 2011 Dubai International Motor Show. GM announced at that time that the TrailBlazer would be a global model beginning with Thailand in early 2012.
Since it is coming to Thailand, we are absolutely sure about its near future launch in the Indian market too. The TrailBlazer is a 7 seater SUV with a body-on-frame type chassis. Though the images that you see here are of the concept model unveiled at the Motor Show, but the company has specifically commented that the actual production version of the TrailBlazer will be very similar to the concept model. If that is so, then GM will be adding a great product to their portfolio (in terms of styling). The TrailBlazer is expected to be powered by a 2.8 litre Duramax engine that produces 180 BHP of power and 47.8 kgm of torque while a 2.5 litre diesel engine will also be offered that will produce 150 BHP of power.
2013 Chevrolet Trailblaizer Interiors photoThe TrailBlazer is going to be quite attractive from the interior too with expectation of sporting more space than its competitors, the Fortuner and the Endeavour. Other features include auxiliary power plug with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, An overhead console that integrates the HVAC system with onboard infotainment, Second row 60/40 split seats with single latch forward gravity tumble, fold-flat capability, and six-degree seat-back reclining along with integrated folding armrests with cup holders and Third row 50/50 split seats with center console storage and fold-flat capability. The TrailBlazer is going to assembled at the company’s Halol plant and will be sold at an expected price of Rs. 17 lakhs.

British automaker Lotus worked with the GM Technical Center – India for more than a year and a half to tune the chassis. Safety was given paramount importance in the development of the MPV Concept. High-strength and ultra-high-strength steel are used in the body and chassis.
Both the Sail hatchback and the MPV Concept will be tested on different terrains and in different climate conditions across India.
