Bajaj Pulsar 220 S Discontinued

Ameya Pulsar 220S photo
Bajaj Auto has discontinued the Pulsar 220 S. The company pulled off the non-faired version almost two months ago, when it unveiled the Pulsar 200 NS. The reason for the Pulsar 220 S being pulled off the market is because of its low sales. The difference between the Pulsar 220 S and Pulsar 220 F was just Rs. 3000/- and most buyers preferred to opt for the Pulsar with the projector headlights. Bajaj Auto had intentionally made the Pulsar 220 S as a limited edition, to fill the thirst of people who wanted the 200 but couldn’t get one.
Bajaj Auto has made no announcements regarding this and quietly pulled the Pulsar 220 off their website. Bajaj dealers have confirmed with us about this development. The Bajaj Pulsar 220 will be withdrawn from the market altogether in the later half of the year, once the Pulsar 200 NS hits the showrooms. Bajaj had launched a speedlines edition of the Pulsar 220 S just before it was discontinued. The motorcycle was powered by a 220 cc DTS-i engine which produced 20.8 BHP of peak power at 8500 RPM and 19.12 Nm of peak torque at 7000 RPM. The S version of the P220 weighed 5 kgs less than the F version.

Bajaj Cannot Replicate Honda, But Still Can Be The Best – Rajiv Bajaj

Bajaj Avenger 220 DTSi photoThe second largest 2-wheeler motorcycle manufacturer in India, Bajaj Auto is facing a lot of stiff competition from global competitors especially Honda after the later broke its ties with Hero Group and went solo. Honda achieved record sales in the month of March and overtook Bajaj to become the second largest motorcycle maker in terms of volumes. Bajaj Auto is striving hard to constantly evolve itself and trying to create a niche brand image for itself in the face of such stiff competition.
Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto Ltd commented that Bajaj cannot replicate Honda, but still can be the best. He says that the key aspects for the company’s growth strategy were sales, profitability and brand image. Admitting that there was no doubt about Honda being the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, Mr. Bajaj acknowledges how Honda is rapidly gaining foothold in the Indian market. Compared to that, Bajaj Auto has a 10% share of the global motorcycle market and he believes it can be easily taken to 20%. Apart from sales, Bajaj Auto has consistently posted 20% EBITDA over many quarters now.
10777 500x340 Pulsar 200 NS 03 photoSo, in short 2 of its pillars are already well established. About brand image, he states that Bajaj Auto has achieved almost half the job. The company took the Pulsar series to a new level by bringing in the new Pulsar 200NS. The new Discover is also set to roll out by the end of this fiscal year. The KTM Duke 200, on the other hand is a relatively new brand but with a lot of promise. Currently it is doing sales close to 1500 units per month.

Bajaj Auto Raises KTM Stake to 47%

ktm super duker 800 photoBajaj Auto has just raised its stake in KTM Power Sports to 47%. The company has just recently acquired 6.3% in the Austrian motorcycle company through an open market transaction. The Chakan based automaker has been slowly and steadily acquiring stake in KTM, through Bajaj Auto International Holdings (BAIHBV is a Netherlands-based subsidiary of Bajaj Auto). Currently Bajaj Auto is the second largest shareholder in KTM, with the 51% stake being held by Stefan Pierer and Rudolf Knuenz (of Cross Industries).
“We will be buying more shares to up our stake from 40%. However, we do not want to be the majority stakeholder as to convey the perception of exclusivity and premiumness. It’s better that Bajaj doesn’t become its majority stake holder,” Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, said.
ktm rc8 photoBajaj Auto started picking up stake in KTM in 2007, when the company acquired 14.5% for Rs. 300 crore. Since then, Bajaj Auto has been slowly increasing its stake in the Austrian automaker by purchasing shares through the open market. Both companies have been working on joint development of platforms and powertrains, which will give them cost advantages, helping them to boost their profitability. The companies are looking at making India a manufacturing base for motorcycles. Bajaj Auto supplied 11,000 units to KTM last year out of the 81,000 units KTM sold. Bajaj plans to supply 40,000 KTM motorcycles to KTM and is looking at producing 50% of KTM bikes by 2015. The Duke 125 and Duke 200 have helped KTM overtake BMW in Europe.

Bajaj Discover 2013 New Model Spied With Monoshock Suspension

Bajaj Discover 2013 Clear Pictures (1)Bajaj Auto India has recently unveiled the new Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS which is a new generation of Pulsar which is much ahead of the previous generations in terms of  styling and technology. There has been many improvements and changes, in fact so many changes that it seems like an all new bike with little resemblance to old Pulsar. Bajaj is also working on a new generation of Bajaj Discover series which will be Bajaj Discover 2013 which may make its debut towards the end of year 2012 or early 2013 in India. Bajaj is aggressively marketing Bajaj discover range in India with TV commercials, print promotions and though other mediums. Discover series of Bajaj is also quite popular with motorcycles which are mid-way between the low power fuel efficient commuters and the high power low mileage performance bikes. With Bajaj Discover series which usually have close to 125 CC of engine displacement, Bajaj has sold quite a lot of them in past few year.
To give Discover a fair share of fame, Bajaj will launch Bajaj Discover 2013 in India with improved features and styling as it has done for the new Pulsar series. The new Bajaj Discover 2013 has been spotted tested and pictures are shared on Facebook. In this article, we discuss about some of the key elements of Bajaj Discover 2013 which we can decode from the spy pictures and also with our general expectation from next generation discover bikes range.

What Is New In Bajaj Discover 2013 New Model?

Bajaj Discover 2013 Clear Pictures (2)The new discover will get a new and improved instrument cluster, a new design visor, steel handlebar, metal extensions beyond the handle bar grips to reduce vibrations in bike. From the glimpse of the instrument cluster, it seems that it s a analog-digital kind of instrument clusters like we see in the pulsar series in India.

From the side view, we can see rear tyre hugger which is somewhat similar to what we see in Bajaj Pulsar series. The alloy wheels are also new with design similar to that of Pulsar 200 NS with sleek looking design in black alloys. The rear brakes are drum brakes while the front brakes are disk brakes. There is a new exhaust muffler (silencer) with stylish black-silver sporty looking combination. The muffler guard or the silencer cover is also in silver or chrome finish.Bajaj Discover 2013 Clear Pictures (3)

The foot rests are in aluminum finish with rubber tops which looks good quality in general. There are simple looking black coloured leg guard at the front. One of the most noticeable and probably the most important change is the use of monoshock suspension at the rear which will improve the handling and ride characteristics of the new Bajaj Discover 2013 series.

The new Bajaj Discover 2013 is under testing phase and is expected to debut by the year end or early next year 2013 in India. We expect some of the design elements to be inspired by Pulsar 200 and KTM Duke 200. There is also a possibility of three-spark-plugs technology engine to be used in the Discover range instead of the two-spark-plug DTSi engine. It will be interesting to see a more refined and sporty Bajaj Discover series. We will keep you posted about the updates on new Discover,
