Mahindra Quanto Dimensions VS Maruti Ertiga LUV Dimensions, Comparison

After much wait, Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the Mahindra Quanto aka Mahindra Xylo Mini and it was so interesting to see how aggressively Mahindra priced the car against the competition. Since Mahindra has managed to develop a fairly sized 7 seater SUV that too under 4 meters, the most obvious car for which it could prove to be a threat, has to be the Maruti Ertiga. Ertiga is also a 7 seater MPV which is targeted at customers looking for more space and occasionally carrying 7 people in the car. In this article, we do a detailed comparison of Mahindra Quanto Vs Maruti Ertiga.
Mahindra Quanto Vs Maruti Ertiga

Exteriors Comparison

Looks really matter and it is one of the most important departments. Does the Quanto have the looks we are looking for Honestly speaking, there is nothing that amazes us. It completely resembles the Mahindra Xylo MPV from the front and even the rear looks like it has suffered hammer blows, though the spare wheel at the rear does help it look a little better and sportier. Another disappointing thing is the size of the wheels, which certainly do not go with the proportions of the car. But the tail lamps, partially operable quarter glasses do make it look pleasing.
The Ertiga is also features a carryover design (from Ritz) but Maruti has done really well with the overall design. It looks big and feels good in terms of quality of well.  The Ertiga looks more like an MPV, than an SUV and therefore it has a different appeal as against Quanto.

Mahindra Quanto Dimensions

  • Length: 3985 mm
  • Width: 1850 mm
  • Height: 1880 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2760 mm

Maruti Ertiga LUV Dimensions

  • Length: 4265mm
  • Width: 1695 mm
  • Height 1685 mm
  • Wheel Base: 2740 mm
Since the Quanto was specifically designed to be positioned in the sub-4 meter category, the Ertiga is significantly longer. But the width and height and wheelbase of the Quanto is better than the Ertiga.

Interiors Comparison

Dynamic Dashboard
45 degree Dead Top Interiors

Mahindra Quanto looks familiar from inside too, as the components have been derived from Xylo. The fit, finish and design is not even close to Ertiga, but it still pleasant. Features list include blackened pillars, flexible 5+2 seating , granite theme dashboard, armrest for driver and passenger, foldable snack trays at rear seats, digital driver assistance system as seen on Xylo, ABS and EBD, Dual airbags at front, reverse parking assist features, rear defogger, power steering and air conditioning, etc. The strongest points of the Xylo are the massive cabin space and a highly commanding driving position.

Although we have said it plenty of times, but we are going to say it again that Ertiga’s interior is top notch both in terms of quality and features. It feels elegant and has good fit and finish. Features offered with the car include ABS (LDI only), Manual AC, Engine Immobilizer, Power Steering, Internally adjustable ORVM (Manual), Accessory Socket, 60/40 Spilt seats (2nd Row seats with seat slide), Tilt Steering, Retractable cup holder, Body coloured bumpers, Low fuel warning lamp, Door Lock canceller(front), Twin AC, Security alarm system (Door+ Hood), Tachometer, Front Fog Lamp, Audio+CD+USB, Speakers(FRX2+RRX2), Seat back pocket(Co-driver side), Rear Centre Armrest(w/o cup holder), Front & Rear Power windows, Driver ‘s side power window auto down,  Coloured outside door handles & ORVM, Remote Keyless entry, ORVM Mounted turn indicators etc.

Engine Comparison

Maruti Ertiga LUV Diesel Engine

  • 1.3 litre turbocharged DDIS engine
  • Max power of 90 BHP @ 4000 RPM
  • Max torque of 200 Nm @ 1750 RPM
  • ARAI certified mileage of 20.77 KMPL
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • Kerb weight of 1240 Kg
  • Power to weight ratio of 72 BHP per 1000 kg

Mahindra Quanto Engine Specifications

  • 1.5 litre twin turbocharged mCR100 diesel engine
  • Max power of 100 BHP @ 3750 RPM
  • Max torque of 240 Nm @ 1600 to 2300 RPM
  • ARAI certified mileage of 17.21 KMPL
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • Kerb weight of 1640 kg
  • Power to weight ratio of 60.9 BHP per 1000 kg
In Power and Torque both, the Quanto’s engine is quite better than Ertiga’s engine. There is a difference of 10 BHP in power and 40 Nm in torque. However the fuel efficiency of Ertiga is significantly better.

Performance & Handling

Performance and handling is one of the strongest areas of Ertiga. The suspension is good and to an extent, the car handles really well. Although Quanto has more power and torque, the unfriendly dimensions of the car impart too much body roll. It is quite tall and has small wheels which would possibly not be in favor of the car. Power to weight ratio of Ertiga is better than the Quanto meaning it sprints faster than the latter.

Price – Mahindra Quanto Vs Maruti Ertiga

Mahindra Quanto Price Ex-Showroom Delhi

  • Mahindra Quanto C2 is priced at Rs. 5.99 Lakhs
  • Mahindra Quanto C4 is priced at Rs. 6.53 Lakhs
  • Mahindra Quanto C6 is priced at Rs. 7.03 Lakhs
  • Mahindra Quanto C8 is priced at Rs. 7.57 Lakhs

Maruti Ertiga Price Ex-Showroom Delhi

  • Maruti Ertiga LDI is priced at Rs.7.30 lakhs
  • Maruti Ertiga VDI is priced at Rs.7.95 lakhs
  • Maruti Ertiga ZDI is priced at Rs.8.60 lakhs
As we can see the Quanto will be offered in 4 diesel variants whereas the Ertiga in three variants. As I had mentioned in the starting, Mahindra has priced the car way too aggressively. The first three variants of Quanto; C2, C4 and C6 are priced at 5.99 lakhs, 6.53 lakhs and 7.03 lakhs respectively and interestingly they are still cheaper than the base Ertiga LDI priced at 7.3 lakhs. In fact the top end Quanto C8 is priced at 7.57 lakhs, just Rs.27,000 more than the base Ertiga.
If the cars are compared in terms of features, the Quanto and Ertiga are at par in the base variants but the top end Ertiga offers better features such as steering mounted audio controls, roof mounted AC blower for rear passengers etc.

Car Blog India Verdict – Mahindra Quanto Vs Maruti Ertiga

Quanto is relatively cheaper, offers less features but massive space, though the design and quality of the car isn’t as appealing as Ertiga. Contrastingly the Ertiga feels in shape, is significantly more efficient, and has much better interiors and build quality. So the verdict is quite simple. If you are an price conscious buyer on a budget and you to get more space and seating at lesser price, then Quanto should be on your list. But if you have some more money to spare and want a car that looks good, feels good and most importantly returns good mileage then the Ertiga is a great buy.

2012 Mahindra QuantoTest drive review

2012 Mahindra Quanto Review
2012 Mahindra Quanto – Click above for picture gallery
Mahindra launched the Quanto compact SUV today. The vehicle is being targeted at couples and the company feels that the Mahindra Quanto can appeal to both husband and wife with its compact dimensions, powerful engine and commanding seating position. On paper, the Mahindra Quanto has a lot going for it. It does have load of features, a powerful engine and good amount of space. However what most prospective buyers would want to know is how does the Quanto drive? We took the Mahindra Quanto for quick spin and here are our first impressions about the car.

* The Mahindra Quanto doesn’t look ugly in person. It doesn’t have proper proportions as Mahindra has just chopped of the Xylo to make the Quanto.
* The front of the Quanto is identical to the Xylo except the top of the grill. The headlights don’t have orange surrounds in the Quanto, rather it is black.
* The side profile is the worst angle to look at the Mahindra Quanto. The tail gate mounted spare wheel has a well designed cover.
* Step inside and there is a good amount of space in both first and second row of seats. Seats are comfortable but the rear seats are too upright and not adjustable.
* You don’t get into the Quanto, you climb into it. The side foot steps help in this regard but not all variants get it.
* Position of power outlet for second row is almost on the floor, which is not easy to use. No arm rest for rear passengers but both front seats have separate arm rests.
* The Quanto is a rear-wheel drive but there is no hump in the middle row and thus three can sit comfortably. However there is no headrest for the middle passenger on the rear seat.
* Last row of seats best for children with no headrests. The jump seats have little width and headroom is inadequate for full sized adults (above 5-feet 8-inches). The last row of windows are too small and have butterfly flaps for opening.
* Last row of seats fold to give decent luggage space. The Quanto is not a complete 7-seater like the Ertiga.
* Interiors of the Quanto are similar to the Xylo. Quality levels are average at best and plastics are hard. In the front two rows, you don’t feel you are in a compact SUV due to the good amount of interior room.
* The high seating position and large glass area give a commanding view of the road ahead. The rear view mirrors are big too.
* The new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, mCR100 diesel engine performs well. It has decent grunt for city driving but won’t set the roads on fire. Even with twin-turbochargers, the Quanto doesn’t fly because of its heavy 1640 kgs weight, thanks to the ladder frame.
* The Quanto revvs till 3000 RPM in neutral. The vehicle does take its own sweet time to hit 100 km/h (in around 18 seconds) even with 100 BHP of power on tap and 240 Nm of torque. Mid-range performance is good and the Quanto pulls neatly till around 3000 RPM, post which progress starts to trail off.
* The clutch is very light to use. However the gearbox is below average. The gear lever has very awkward slots for all gears, leaving you to guess which gear you are heading for!
* Brakes perform well to stop the massive mass of the Quanto. However pedal feel is lacking and the brake pedal is too hard. One needs to literally stand on the brakes to stop quickly.
* NVH levels of the Quanto could be better. There is significant amount of noise and vibration. As you floor the vehicle, the noise levels increase considerably. Road noise also creeps into the cabin.
* Turbo-lag is present and Quanto feels heavy till the turbo kicks in at around 1600 RPM.
* Steering is light and the commanding view makes driving the Quanto in the city a breeze. The 5.4-meters turning radius is not too much either.
* Ride quality is decent on good roads but the Quanto tends to bounce a bit too much on bad roads.
* With the Quanto having the same suspension system as the Xylo, handling is not confidence inspiring. There is lot of body roll and the top heavy nature of the car becomes immediately apparent when you corner. The small tyres don’t help either.
* Expect mileage of 14-15 km/l in peak city driving, which is very good for a car of this size.
So is the Mahindra Quanto a buy or not? It entirely depends on what you expect from it? During our short stint at the wheel, we could clearly make out that not much work has gone into developing the dynamics of the car. The Quanto behaves like every other Mahindra – easy to drive in the city but poor handling and high speed stability on the highways. At Rs. 8.87 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) for the C8 variant, the Mahindra Quanto does have a lot going for it. The high seating position, good amount of cabin space (first two rows), versatile seating, generous equipment list and frugal yet adequately powerful diesel engine for the city are the positive points of the Quanto.  The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is way superior on quality, refinement, last row space and driving dynamics. However comparing it with the Quanto doesn’t make sense as the Ertiga is much costlier

Mahindra MINI Xylo to launch

MINI Xylo Uncamouflaged
Mahindra will be launching the mini-Xylo compact MPV this festive season. The Indian utility vehicle major has been extensively testing the mini-Xylo for months now. The car has always donned heavy camouflage but now a spy shot without any camouflage has emerged. This points to the mini Xylo going to production anytime soon. The uncamouflaged picture of the mini-Xylo shows the Premier Rio type body layout. There is a side running board, while the wheels seem to be 15-inch in size with high profile tyres. The mini-Xylo will be a 5-seater with jump seats being offered as an option. The low glass in the last row makes it impractical to use the jump seats though.
Mahindra will price the mini-Xylo in the Rs. 5-7 lakh bracket, competing directly with the Premier RiO. The Premier RiO has got Fiat’s jewel now, the 1.3-litre Multijet engine which produces 72 BHP of peak power. The Premier RiO CRDi4 is priced at Rs. 6.7 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune) and Mahindra will easily undercut this price with the diesel variant of the mini-Xylo being priced at around Rs. 6.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune). However the RiO’s diesel engine will be difficult to beat as it offers an excellent mix of power and economy.
Even though the Premier RiO with the Fiat engine is a very good vehicle, expect Mahindra to use its marketing prowess to unsettle India’s first compact SUV. Mahindra will certainly target hatchback buyers with the mini-Xylo. The company did something similar when it launched the Scorpio almost a decade ago, when the Scorpio was targeted at car buyers. We have snapped the Xylo an insane number of times before, even bringing you interior pictures of the vehicle. The dashboard is very similar to the Xylo MPV, on which

Mahindra To Setup Plant At Uttarakhand

Mahindra XUV 500 Review photoThe leader in utility vehicle manufacturing in India, Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to invest close to Rs. 3000 crores to put up its new manufacturing plant in the state of Uttarakhand. This information has been revealed by the state Government of Uttarakhand. This decision has been taken after President of Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors) Pawan Goenka had a meeting with the State Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on 26h April.

The state Government disclosure also revealed that Mahindra & Mahindra has sought a 500 acre land for the setting up of the plant which will be having an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units. The discussions are still on and the Government has proposed to allot land for Mahindra & Mahindra in the area of Sitargunj. The news about the company investment plans comes after it was unhappy about Maharashtra’s recent change in VAT policy.
The Maharashtra Government has announced that in its new VAT refund policy to automakers present in the state, the VAT refund would only be provided to vehicles sold in the state and not all the vehicles produced there. This has not been taken very well by Mahindra and they have decided to stop their next phase of investments to the tune of Rs. 4000 crores at its Chakan manufacturing facility.

Mahindra Developing MPV On Maxximo Platform

Mahindra Maxximo CNG photoThe utility and passenger vehicle maker, Mahindra is developing a brand new Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) on the platform of its Mahindra Maxximo. The Mahindra Maxximo is a light pick-up truck that the company sells in the Indian market and rivals with the Tata Ace. The Mahindra Maxximo portfolio includes the light pick-up truck and a minivan. The vehicle is currently being developed at the Mahindra Research Valley based in Chennai.
A source close to the development of the model said that developing an MPV based on the truck platform is slightly difficult since there has to be a lot of changes made to the areas power and transmission. A timeline for the development has not been frozen yet and the developing is still rumoured to be in its nascent stages. A passenger van on the Mahindra Maxximo platform is also expected to be production ready by the end of this fiscal.
Ashok Leyland NV200 photoOff late, the Indian automotive market has seen a heavy demand for the MPVs and MUVs. The segment which once used to contribute only 2% of the total sales volumes now command close to 11-12% of the total sales volumes. Other MPVs in the pipeline due to get launched in India include the Nissan-Ashok Leyland Evalia and the Chevrolet Enjoy.

Mahindra The Real Hero XUV500 Booking Started

Mahindra XUV 500 First Drive 321 photoMahindra is quietly started accepting new bookings for the XUV500. The Indian utility major is taking bookings from unsuccessful draw applicants for the XUV500 and plans to deliver the vehicles in the next lot. The XUV500′s demand far exceed its supply and Mahindra is working hard on delivering the XUV500 to customers as quick as they can. The company has increased production from 2000 units a month to 3000 units a month to ensure quicker deliveries and less waiting period for prospective customers. With the initial enthusiasm around the product gradually declining, has Mahindra made a mistake by not scaling up production faster!
The Mahindra XUV500 is powered by a 2179 cc, mhawk 140 diesel engine which produces 140 BHP of peak power at 3750 RPM and 330 Nm of peak torque at 1600 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, which is not the best cog shifting mechanism around. The XUV500 has no real competition as the vehicle is positioned as an SUV, while Tata positions the Aria as a crossover. The XUV500 will soon be facing tough competition from new products including the Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport. The Mahindra XUV500 is too a 5-seater of sorts as the last row is best suited for children. This means that the 5-seater compact SUVs from Renault and Ford have a formidable chance of uprooting the XUV500 from its high demand position.

Maruti Ertiga Diesel LUV Vs Mahindra Xylo 2012 MPV

Most of the buyers who wish to own a big car and cannot afford a luxury SUV, go for an MPV. Talking about some interesting MPV’s we have Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova as the top contenders. Recently Maruti has launched the much awaited Maruti Ertiga which may not be a hardcore MPV but is surely a tough competitor. Named as LUV or lifestyle utility vehicle, it is appreciably cheaper than a full fledged MPV which is the reason why we are here to compare it with the Xylo. In this article, on our continuation in our car comparison series, we will compare in details the two promising vehicles - Maruti Ertiga Vs Mahindra Xylo.
Maruti Ertiga LUV Vs Mahindra Xylo MPV
image – Maruti Ertiga(left) and Mahindra Xylo(right)

Exteriors Comparison of Maruti Ertiga Vs Mahindra Xylo 2012

Maruti Ertiga is based on the platform of 2011 Maruti Swift but the same has been elongated to fit the body dimensions of Ertiga. From the front it resembles Maruti Ritz and Swift to an extent while from the sides and rear its an all new car. Looks wise the car is refreshing and different and has its own road presence.
The Xylo is a popular car and the facelifted model is even more popular now. The face gets remarkable improvements and it looks very upmarket now. The masculine character of the car is reflected across the length and breadth of car and there is now way it will go unnoticed.

Maruti Ertiga LUV Dimensions

  • Length: 4265mm
  • Width: 1695 mm
  • Height 1685 mm
  • Wheel Base: 2740 mm

Mahindra Xylo 2012 Dimensions

  • Length : 4520 mm
  • Width : 1850 mm
  • Height : 1895 mm
  • Wheelbase : 2760 mm
Evidently the Xylo is significantly, longer, wider, taller and also has a much longer wheelbase. So if your concern is space, then Xylo does have an edge over Ertiga.

Interiors Comparison Of Maruti Ertiga Vs Mahindra Xylo 2012

Maruti Ertiga LUV Interiors

Maruti Ertiga Interiors (1)
image – Maruti Ertiga Interiors
Talking about the interiors of Ertiga, I would like to mention that Maruti has come a long way and Ertiga is a fabulously built car. The fit and finish on the inside is enormously improved over the Swift or Ritz. The dual tone interiors are pleasing, however the design is simple and less interesting. Features offered with the car include ABS (LDI only), Manual AC, Engine Immobilizer, Power Steering, Internally adjustable ORVM (Manual), Accessory Socket, 60/40 Spilt seats (2nd Row seats with seat slide), Tilt Steering, Retractable cup holder, Body coloured bumpers, Low fuel warning lamp, Door Lock canceller(front), Twin AC, Security alarm system (Door+ Hood), Tachometer, Front Fog Lamp, Audio+CD+USB, Speakers(FRX2+RRX2), Seat back pocket(Co-driver side), Rear Centre Armrest(w/o cup holder), Front & Rear Power windows, Driver ‘s side power window auto down,  Coloured outside door handles & ORVM, Remote Keyless entry, ORVM Mounted turn indicators etc.

Luxurious Space and comfort
image – Mahindra Xylo 2012 New Model Interiors
The Xylo is elegantly built but is and the finish is really upmarket. The central console, steering wheel and the rest of the dashboard everything feels good but it is not sporty at all. The design is less interesting than the Ertiga. Features include Sleek chrome accent, Clear lens two-tone tail lamps, Dual SRS Airbags for Safety, Cruise Control for convenience, Steering Mounted Audio Controls, Dual Zone Air Conditioning, Voice Recognition control for controlling head lamps, wipers, fuel lid, door locks etc. Other features are Italian leather seats trim, Dual tone dashboard styling, New Door trims, Wood Inserts in the central console, Improved suspension tuning for better ride and handling characteristic etc.
In interiors Xylo has an edge both in terms of features and space.

Engine Comparison Of Maruti Ertiga Diesel Vs Mahindra Xylo 2012

Maruti Ertiga LUV Diesel Engine

  • 1.3 litre turbocharged DDIS engine
  • Max power of 90 BHP @ 4000 RPM
  • Max torque of 200 Nm @ 1750 RPM
  • ARAI certified mileage of 20.77 KMPL
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • Power to weight ratio of 48 BHP per 1000 kg

Mahindra Xylo MPV Diesel Engine

2.5 Litre mDI CRDe Diesel
  • 2.5 Litre mdi CRDe diesel engine
  • Peak power of 95 BHP @ 3600 RPM
  • Peak Torque of 220 Nm @ 1400 – 2600 RPM
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • ARAI Mileage of 13 KMPL
  • Power to weight ratio of 51.9 BHP per 1000 kg

2.2 Litre mEagle Diesel Engine

  • 2.5 Litre mEagle diesel engine
  • Peak power of 112 BHP @ 3800 RPM
  • Peak Torque of 260 Nm @ 1800 – 2200 RPM
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • ARAI Mileage of 13 KMPL
  • Power to weight ratio of 61.2 BHP per 1000 kg

2.2 Litre mHawk Diesel Engine

  • 2.5 Litre mdi CRDe diesel engine
  • Peak power of 120 BHP @ 3800 RPM
  • Peak Torque of 290 Nm
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • ARAI Mileage of 14.02 KMPL
  • Power to weight ratio of 61.2 BHP per 1000 kg
There is a huge difference between the capacity of the engines of Xylo and Ertiga. The former comes in three engine options: a 2.5 litre mEagle engine, a 2.5 litre mDI CRDe diesel and a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel engine, while the latter  features a smaller 1.3 litre. The power and torque figures of Xylo are better which is well justified by the size of its engines. If you look a the fuel efficiency of both the cars, Ertiga does win with a fairly good margin. It has a certified mileage of 20.77 Kg which is way better than Xylo’s 13 KMPL and 14.02 KMPL.

Performance And Handling Comparison of Maruti Ertiga Vs Mahindra Xylo

The Ertiga is a less taller vehicle and is based on Swift’s platform. This means that its handling characteristics are good and it is stable on high speeds. Another important fact is that it handles well on sharp corners. The Xylo is a taller vehicle and in spite of the extra power and torque it feels less confidence inspiring on corners and one can experience some body roll. However on straight roads, it is quite stable.

Maruti Ertiga LUV Diesel Price Vs Mahindra Xylo 2012 MPV Diesel Price

Mahindra And Mahindra To Set Up New Plant Outside Maharashtra

Mahindra XUV500 Official Pictures (2)India is a huge market and especially for commercial vehicles, the demand is quite high. Mahindra & Mahindra is India’s largest multi-utility vehicle manufacturer and recently it disclosed some information about its future operations. Mahindra is looking forward to establish a new facility in India.
Instead of opting for a piece of land in Maharashtra, Mahindra is planning to build the new facility outside Maharashtra. For the same the brand will make an investment of Rs. 3000-Rs. 4000 crore. This new plant has surfaced just because of the new amendment brought in VAT rules by the government of Maharashtra. As per the decision taken by the government in the recent budget, automakers are asked to setoff on value added tax (VAT) on vehicles sold in the very state of Maharashtra only.

This new VAT rule is being strictly opposed by Mahindra as manufacturers only sell around 10 – 15 % in the state itself and the rest are sold in other states. Not only Mahindra, a number of other brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Piaggio, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and Volkswagen are also existing in Maharashtra who are opposing this new rule and are unhappy with the change which puts more financial burden on them.
Earlier Mahindra was planning to set up its new plant in Chakan, a place near Pune. But later on going through other available options and in order to oppose to the new VAT rule, Mahindra is finally looking at an alternative outside Maharashtra. Mr. Pawan Goenka , President: automotive and farm equipment sectors of Mahindra, said
“Yes, it can be. We are deciding what is the best option? We have not announced anything yet, but we are still finalizing on one or two alternatives.”
Let us wish Mahindra luck for their future plans. For more updates stay tuned. You can check out some more Mahindra and Mahindra India News here.

2012 Mahindra Thar With AC Launched

2011 Mahindra Thar photo
Mahindra has quietly slipped in an updated version of the Thar for the Indian market. The Indian automaker has added the crucial air-conditioner and engine immobilizer as a standard piece of equipment on the Thar. When Mahindra launched the Thar sans AC, many were quite upset about it as the high pollution in the atmosphere makes it impossible to drive without an AC. Mahindra told buyers to opt for AC, but an after market AC is not as reliable as a factory fitted one and could also void the warranty of the vehicle.
2012 Thar Interiors photoThe air-conditioner has been added to the CRDe Thar only and the DI version does not get it yet. The Mahindra Thar with these new features is priced at Rs. 6.86 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price hike of close to Rs. 90,000/- is a significant one, considering the addition of just two features in the Thar. The Mahindra Thar CRDe is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine which produces 105 BHP of peak power at 3800 RPM and 247 Nm of peak torque at 1800 RPM. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the Thar has 4-wheel drive system as standard. With a ground clearance of 200 mm, the Thar is well suited to off-roading and is one of the best ways to conquer the urban jungle.

Mahindra Stallio Launch Delayed Till October

Mahindra Stallio 110cc photo
The Mahindra Stallio is one such motorcycle, which is been a long time coming and will continue to be a long time coming as Mahindra has postponed the launch of the commuter bike yet again. The Mahindra Stallio was launched in October 2010, only to be withdrawn from the market four months later due to faulty clutch and gear components. The company then planned to re-launch the Stallio at the 2012 Auto Expo but till date there has been no news of the launch. Now the launch has been delayed till October 2012.
While Mahindra can certainly bring the Stallio to the market within a months time, the company chose not to. The 2-wheeler entrant is looking at ironing out all the issues on the Stallio to ensure customer don’t face any problem and the Stallio performs well against the extremely heated competition from Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and Honda. The Stallio is a 110 cc commuter bike, which produces 7.3 BHP of power and 8 Nm of torque. It was priced at Rs. 41,199/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai), when it was launched 18 months ago. The engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox.
Mahindra will not have it easy to capture the market with the Stallio as Honda will be launching the Dream Yuga next month. Currently Mahindra enjoys a good market share in the scooter segment with its Duro and Rodeo products. The postponement of the Stallio’s launch also means that the Mojo will not come before 2013. By the time the Mojo arrives, we can expect Yamaha, Suzuki and Hyosung to launch their offerings in the quarter-litre segment.

Now the 2012 Xylo facelift has already arrived at a few dealer stock yards and the production has already started and the launch is on the 8th of February. Although this update to the 2012 Mahindra Xylo is a not drastic, Mahindra has ensured that it has done significant changes to the MPV, after factoring in customer feedback.
The Mahindra Xylo Facelift sees a revision to the headlights, bumpers, grille, hood. These changes seem to have been inspired by none other than the company’s flagship model, the XUV5OO. Changes to the interiors would include addition of a few features along with beige interiors. The engines will be unchanged and power will come in from a 2.2-liter mEagle diesel engine which produces 112 BHP of power and a 2.2-liter DI diesel engine which produces 95 BHP of power. 2012 Xylo Facelift photoThe time of the Mahindra Xylo facelift comes at a very right time, as Maruti Suzuki is almost ready to unleash the Ertiga MPV on its rivals. Looking at the growth in the MPV segment, we can expect Hyundai to put the Hexa Space into production some time soon, while the Nissan Evalia will see a launch by August 2012. The MPV segment is suddently seeing vast competition, even thoguh the first vehicle to enter was the Toyota Innova in 2005, which is not only the costliest but even the highest selling MPV in the country by a long margin for 6 years in a row!

Mahindra Launch Korando ?

Mahindra SsangYong Korando India photo
Mahindra recently acquired the Korean SUV maker, Ssangyong Motors as a step to venture into the premium SUV segment. Mahindra has announced that it would bring the Korando and the Rexton SUVs to the market first and the company showcased the new Ssangyong Korando E at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. This was followed by an announcement that the Rexton will be launched in 2012. After the Rexton, the Korando should be introduced in early 2013. The Korando has been one of the most successful models in the Ssangyong portfolio and Mahindra wants to re-write that success story all over again with the new Korando. First launched in 1974, the Korando went to be listed in the Guinness book of World Records as the country’s longest surviving automotive brand. The Korando was the first ever self developed 4-wheel drive model to roll out of Ssangyong in 1984 and in 1996, it adopted the diesel engines from Mercedes-Benz.

Power delivery is provided either to the front wheels or all the 4 wheels depending on the variant. The 2 litre is also quite frugal with a combined cycle fuel economy of 6 litre/100 km (47 mpg) and only 157g/km of CO2 emissions. Next year, a more fuel efficient diesel and a petrol unit will be added to the powertrain portfolio.
The Korando is the first SUV in the Ssangyong portfolio to get the monocoque construction and has a keb weight of 1,672 kgs (manual version). On the safety front the car gets features like 4-channel ABS, Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), an Immobilizer system, a child proof safety lock and a speed sensing dor lock among a host of other features. It rides on 16, 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels. The car also has features like ESP with hydraulic brake assist, hill start assist and active roll over protection.
