It is the latest version of the Alto launched after the Alto K10 and is the Maruti’s cheapest price car as it is available at a cheaper price than the Maruti Alto . It has stylish design in a new avatar , but looks somewhat like the mix of Maruti Alto and the Maruti A-Star . It is available in Petrol and CNG fuel versions providing high mileage in both the variant . The new Alto 800 also has optional driver seat airbags .

Mahindra Quanto Dimensions VS Maruti Ertiga LUV Dimensions, Comparison

After much wait, Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the Mahindra Quanto aka Mahindra Xylo Mini and it was so interesting to see how aggressively Mahindra priced the car against the competition. Since Mahindra has managed to develop a fairly sized 7 seater SUV that too under 4 meters, the most obvious car for which it could prove to be a threat, has to be the Maruti Ertiga. Ertiga is also a 7 seater MPV which is targeted at customers looking for more space and occasionally carrying 7 people in the car. In this article, we do a detailed comparison of Mahindra Quanto Vs Maruti Ertiga.

Exteriors Comparison

Looks really matter and it is one of the most important departments. Does the Quanto have the looks we are looking for Honestly speaking, there is nothing that amazes us. It completely resembles the Mahindra Xylo MPV from the front and even the rear looks like it has suffered hammer blows, though the spare wheel at the rear does help it look a little better and sportier. Another disappointing thing is the size of the wheels, which certainly do not go with the proportions of the car. But the tail lamps, partially operable quarter glasses do make it look pleasing.
The Ertiga is also features a carryover design (from Ritz) but Maruti has done really well with the overall design. It looks big and feels good in terms of quality of well.  The Ertiga looks more like an MPV, than an SUV and therefore it has a different appeal as against Quanto.

Since the Quanto was specifically designed to be positioned in the sub-4 meter category, the Ertiga is significantly longer. But the width and height and wheelbase of the Quanto is better than the Ertiga.

Mahindra Quanto looks familiar from inside too, as the components have been derived from Xylo. The fit, finish and design is not even close to Ertiga, but it still pleasant. Features list include blackened pillars, flexible 5+2 seating , granite theme dashboard, armrest for driver and passenger, foldable snack trays at rear seats, digital driver assistance system as seen on Xylo, ABS and EBD, Dual airbags at front, reverse parking assist features, rear defogger, power steering and air conditioning, etc. The strongest points of the Xylo are the massive cabin space and a highly commanding driving position.

Although we have said it plenty of times, but we are going to say it again that Ertiga’s interior is top notch both in terms of quality and features. It feels elegant and has good fit and finish. In Power and Torque both, the Quanto’s engine is quite better than Ertiga’s engine. There is a difference of 10 BHP in power and 40 Nm in torque. However the fuel efficiency of Ertiga is significantly better.

Performance & Handling

Performance and handling is one of the strongest areas of Ertiga. The suspension is good and to an extent, the car handles really well. Although Quanto has more power and torque, the unfriendly dimensions of the car impart too much body roll. It is quite tall and has small wheels which would possibly not be in favor of the car. Power to weight ratio of Ertiga is better than the Quanto meaning it sprints faster than the latter.

As we can see the Quanto will be offered in 4 diesel variants whereas the Ertiga in three variants. As I had mentioned in the starting, Mahindra has priced the car way too aggressively. The first three variants of Quanto; C2, C4 and C6 are priced at 5.99 lakhs, 6.53 lakhs and 7.03 lakhs respectively and interestingly they are still cheaper than the base Ertiga LDI priced at 7.3 lakhs. In fact the top end Quanto C8 is priced at 7.57 lakhs, just Rs.27,000 more than the base Ertiga.
If the cars are compared in terms of features, the Quanto and Ertiga are at par in the base variants but the top end Ertiga offers better features such as steering mounted audio controls, roof mounted AC blower for rear passengers etc.

Quanto is relatively cheaper, offers less features but massive space, though the design and quality of the car isn’t as appealing as Ertiga. Contrastingly the Ertiga feels in shape, is significantly more efficient, and has much better interiors and build quality. So the verdict is quite simple. If you are an price conscious buyer on a budget and you to get more space and seating at lesser price, then Quanto should be on your list. But if you have some more money to spare and want a car that looks good, feels good and most importantly returns good mileage then the Ertiga is a great buy.

Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is back with New disign

The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is due for launch in a few weeks from now and clear interior shots have now surgaced. With the halt on India’s largest selling car, Maruti 800′s production, Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Alto 800 and is expected to be launched with factory fitted CNG option as well, in and around the upcoming festive season. The Alto 800 is expected to be priced at around Rs. 2 lakhs and is already ringing bells in the Indian car market. The exterior design is based on a mix of cars, including the Ford Figo and now you can view the interiors with these pictures.

The Maruti Alto 800 comes in silver and beige finish interiors, which are most impressive compared to the M800. The A/C vents are impressively put, the central console has stereo system and the A/C control round knobs, the beige finish on the steering wheel, the 2012 Alto 800 has it all. The front seats have the integrated head rests and the seats are made for comfort. The height of the car has been increased, which means more leg room too. There seems to be some cost-cutting, though as it seems, the buttons for the power windows is placed in the centre below the gear lever, and there is too much use of plastic material on the dashboard.

The front beige and grey fabric trim inside the front door adds to the interior glow. A large pocket is also provided for small handy storage purposes in the front door. There is space allocated for mounting the speakers in the doors with round mesh on them. The outside black rear view mirrors are manually adjustable. The front view of the Alto 800 has a cute ‘V’ stretching from the view mirror up to the nose and a Suzuki emblem on the silver chrome strip on the grille. The headlamps are wide to the sides and pointy towards the inside giving off a cute ninja look and the large hexagonal grille and air-dams give Alto 800 a much more premium look as compared to the older generation Alto.

At times we have heard some news and some scoops on Maruti Suzuki developing a small diesel engine for its small car lineup, but this time we have more details which have been revealed by renowned publication ET with many juicy details. As per the latest media report, Maruti Suzuki is developing an 800 CC Diesel engine at Suzuki Japan (parent plant) and it is expected to deliver 40 BHP of peak power with a fuel mileage of close to 30 KMPL on Diesel which is second best to none in India so far in diesel car segment. Tata is testing its Tata Nano Diesel with a 800 CC turbocharged 2 cylinder engine which is expected to deliver close to 40 KMPL of mileage!

The Nano Diesel is scheduled for early 2013 launch while the Suzuki’s small engine E2 is expected to take much longer as the engine is still under development. It may take at least 2 more years to be completely ready for Indian roads which means that the small diesel engine cars from Maruti Suzuki with its new E2 800 CC Diesel engine will roll out somewhere in late 2014 or early 2015.

The development of the E2 800 CC Diesel engine is at very initial stages as of now and since it is being developed from scratch, it will take plenty of time for testing and optimization of the same. After it is tested properly at Japan, it will be then adapted to Indian needs and after due amount of testing only it will make its way to under-the-hood of a Maruti Suzuki small car.

The cars which are expected to get this small diesel engine are 2012 Maruti Alto 800 new model which launches in 800 CC petrol engine in late 2012, Maruti A-Star which is not doing encouraging sales numbers in petrol segment and most likely the Wagon R Diesel which may get the same diesel engine with a little higher power tuning provided that it is slightly above the Alto segment.

With a new small engine developed by Suzuki from scratch, Maruti Suzuki will save hugely on the diesel cars as the each Maruti cars fitted with the Fiat’s 1.3 Litre Multijet engine cost royalty which is paid by Maruti to Fiat for using their diesel engine technology. Moreover at the time when the demand for diesel cars is more than the demand for petrol cars, it makes even more financial sense for Maruti Suzuki to have an indigenous diesel engine. Maruti Launch Cervo Small Car ?

Maruti Suzuki has stopped the production of Maruti 800 in India and has stated clearly at the launch of Maruti Ertiga MPV that it will launch a small car replacing Maruti 800 by the end of 2012. The small car which replaces Maruti 800 is under testing at Maruti Suzuki India facilities and will debut in India in 2012 if all goes as planned. In the middle of the developments, rumors about the Japanese Kei car Suzuki Cervo Launch in India are high again. Back in the year 2010, one of the Maruti Suzuki officials commented that they are considering the possibility to bring Suzuki Cervo to India which will compete with the small cars in India under Maruti Alto. Since then, we haven’t heard anything from official sources about the Maruti Cervo. On being asked about the Cervo, Maruti Suzuki officials have never confirmed the launch plans for it in India so far. As per the fresh media reports by some TV channels and websites, the Cervo may make it to India as Maruti 800 replacement. As per these sources the Cervo will feature a 660 CC 3 cylinder petrol engine with a fuel efficiency of above 25 KMPL.

Since Maruti Suzuki has showcased some of its Kei cars with 660 CC Engines at the Auto Expo 2012 and there has been a Kei car also spotted on India roads which indicates that Maruti maybe testing this engine on Indian roads, these rumors get all the more air! After we heard these media reports, we also confirmed with our sources close to Maruti Suzuki about the possibility of launch of Maruti Cervo in India, as per per sources, there is no plan to launch Maruti Cervo in India as of now. Although we would love to see a modern looking car like Cervo to be launched in India, but Maruti seems to have different plans and Cervo seems to be a distant dream for India. A car like Cervo will give some real competition to a compact like Eon which combines the fuel efficiency of a compact and aesthetics of a premium car with the price tag which is quite affordable.

The small car which will replace Maruti 800 will rather be a different car which will be based on Maruti Alto platform which will use the same platform as Alto to save on costs. The small car which is sometimes referred to as YE3 by media, will also feature 800 CC Engine unit which is expected to be the same as we see on a Maruti Alto 800 CC Model which has an FD8 engine unit with a 3 cylinder 12 valve engine with peak power of around 46 BHP and peak torque of about 62 Nm. There is no details on the transmission and other specifications as of now, but considering the fuel economy in consideration, we expect it to have a 5 speed manual transmission system.

In totality, it will be a car which will be placed below Maruti Alto, the Alto’s price is around Rs. 2.4 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. Considering the Alto’s price tag, we expect that the new small car by Maruti Suzuki will be priced somewhere between Rs. 1.8 Lakhs to Rs. 2.5 Lakhs to challenge the high end version of cheapest car in India, the Tata Nano. It will be interesting to see how this car comes out to be.

The new Dzire is nothing but the 2011 Maruti Swift with a smaller and sportier boot. So in terms of looks its similar to the Swift but can be distinguished by its restyled bumpers, grille and rear. The car looks much better than the older Dzire and is much sportier too.

The Ertiga is the latest product which is based on Swift’s platform but resembles Maruti Ritz in looks. It is a completely new design which is simple yet interesting. If we consider the looks of the two only, for me the Dzire is a better car.

If we consider the petrol engines of Maruti Swift Dzire 2012 and Maruti Ertiga LUV, they are both K series engines but have different capacities. The base Petrol variants of the Dzire and Ertiga are priced at Rs. 4.88 Lakhs and Rs. 5.89 Lakhs respectively with a difference of about Rs. 1 Lakh. The difference is about Rs. 1.2 Lakhs for Vxi and Rs. 1 Lakh for the top end ZXi variants which is quite a sharp piece difference. If you are looking for a larger car for small trips for 7 passengers, Ertiga makes more sense. But if you only seat a maximum of 5 adults in your car, Dzire is a more economical choice. However, for the extra price, Ertiga does offer oodles of luggage space if the last two seats are folded flat. So if you need lots of luggage space with 5 passengers on board or an occasional small in-the city trips for a family of up to 7 members without much luggage, Ertiga is a more sensible choice, however it will cost you about Rs. 1 Lakh more. Also, if you are looking for an automatic transmission only, then Ertiga is not an option as only Dzire offers an automatic transmission in the VXi variant.

Ertiga Diesel has been priced considerably higher than the Ertiga Petrol and the difference is steeper than that in the Petrol and Diesel variants of the New Dzire. If you see variant to variant comparison, the Dzire is cheaper than Ertiga between Rs. 1.2 Lakhs to Rs. 1.5 Lakhs ex-showroom. This is quite a considerable difference in the price for two cars being compared. In the case of Diesel, the Dzire becomes an even more value for money buy compared to Maruti Ertiga. We would recommend to go for Ertiga only when you have often need to carry 7 adults or high luggage very often with 5 or lesser passengers. Maruti Suzuki SUV On Fast Track

The country’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India has revealed that that it is undergoing talks with its parent company, Suzuki Motor Company for development of the compact SUV for the Indian market. The company which used to enjoy a 50% market share in the Indian passenger car segment has seen a considerable drop in its market share in the past year. with a view to regain back the market share, the company plans to make a speedy entry into the compact SUV segment.
The compact SUV segment has seen a lot of demand off late in the Indian automotive market and companies like Ford and Renault are already on track to launch their compact SUV models this year with the EcoSport and the Duster respectively. These models were also showcased by the companies at the 2012 Auto Expo. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand showcased a concept model of its compact SUV, the XA Alpha.
The company admits that though it takes close to 18 to 24 months to design, develop and commercially manufacture a car, it has a strong belief that it can fast-track the development process. Top officials from Maruti Suzuki led by managing director and chief executive Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi recently flew to Japan to discuss this plan at length and breadth with the Suzuki officials. If the discussion comes through, then we expect to see a Maruti Suzuki badged compact SUV very soon on the Indian roads at an aggressive pricing.

Maruti Suzuki's Own Diesel Engines is Coming

With the current Indian automotive market shifting towards diesel engine powered vehicles, the country’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki feels handicapped at some occasions with the current inability to offer a diesel engine with all its models. Currently the company offers diesel powertrains in its Swift, Swift Dzire, SX4, Ritz and the newly launched Ertiga. But the volume segment models like Alto, WagonR, Eeco among other models are not still available with the diesel engine option.

Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director of Maruti Suzuki India said that the R&D team of the company says it is impossible to offer diesel models for all its models. With the diesel demand surging higher, the company is offering alternate fuel like CNG powered vehicles to effectively gain some additional numbers that otherwise the company would have lost to its competitors.

Despite the petrol price hovering so high, the Maruti Suzuki Alto remains the highest selling model in the Indian car market with clocking close to 20,000 units per month. However, the company is trying to reduce its dependency on the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine. For this, the company is rumoured to be developing a 1.0-litre. 3-cylinder diesel engine at its in-house R&D centre. The company is also pumping heavy investment close to Rs. 900 crores at Rohtak, Haryana to bring up a new R&D centre. Suzuki Powertrain India is also rumoured to be doing similar developments.

Maruti Suzuki Hits The Right Spot With The Ertiga

The country’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki officially made its foray into the fast growing MUV segment with the launch of the Ertiga on 12th April. With a very aggressive pricing, the car has instantly become a big hit among the customers. Company officials have stated that the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has already received close to 400 bookings in Maharashtra on the first day of its launch. Besides, this the company has received a large number of enquiries about the Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki also plans to expand to the South Asian markets too with this MUV vehicle starting with Indonesia. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will be shipped towards the end of the next month. In Indonesia, the company currently has a 3% market share and hopes to increase it with the help of the Ertiga. The Ertiga would be exported as CKD units and assembled in the Indonesian manufacturing facility. Back in India, the company is expecting the diesel powered Ertiga to be under high demand since customers are inclined towards diesel given the pricing of the fuel compared to petrol.

Maruti Suzuki also revealed that there are no plans currently to launch a CNG variant of the Ertiga since there is no clear plan from the Government to have CNG stations across India. To cater to the diesel mill demand, Maruti Suzuki plans to invest close to Rs. 2000 crore in its Gurgaon manufacturing facility to add additional lines to manufacture diesel engines. The company would manufacture 1.5 lakh diesel engines for Swift and Desire in the current year to meet the growing demand. The company will also setup a vendor park or its proposed greenfield manufacturing facility at Mehsana in Gujarat. The new manufacturing plant is coming up in Gujarat in view of the infrastructure congestion at Gurgaon and additional volume demand.

There is a huge difference between the capacity of the engines of Xylo and Ertiga. The power and torque figures of Xylo are better which is well justified by the size of its engines. If you look a the fuel efficiency of both the cars, Ertiga does win with a fairly good margin. Ertiga comes in only three variants, LDi. VDi and ZDi whereas Xylo comes in a number of variants which are D2, D4, E4, E8 and E9.

Maruti Ertiga LUV Launched In India– Price, Pictures, Features And All Details

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has unveiled its MPV  called the Maruti Ertiga LUV (Lifestyle Utility Vehicle) globally at the Auto Expo 2012. The launch of Maruti Ertiga LUV took place on 12th April 2012 in New Delhi India. Maruti Suzuki has launched the Ertiga at a very lucrative introductory price of Rs. 5.89 Lakhs for entry level petrol and goes up to Rs. 8.45 Lakhs for top end ZDi Diesel engine Ertiga LUV. The Ertiga is the production version of the Maruti R3 Concept which we reported to you from Auto Expo 2010 two exactly years back. This is a made in India and Designed in India MPV with comfortable three row of seats and pleasant interiors with sufficient space and quality for a comfortable commuter with a large family, a group of friends or for other people carrier purposes. It has a mysterious resemblance with Maruti Ritz hatchback or Maruti Swift specially from front, but its an all new and longer car built on Maruti Swift Platform.
Ertiga is the first car in the Maruti Suzuki India portfolio to be powered by the brand new advanced K-series 1.4 litre Petrol VVT engine. Ertiga is also available with the successful 1.3 litre DDiS Superturbo VGT Diesel engine.

Maruti Ertiga LUV / MPV Features, Specifications, Pictures and Details

Maruti Ertiga LUV comes in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a K Series Suzuki engine and the diesel is a Multi-jet diesel which propels the LUV quite efficiently. The interiors are beige and give an upmarket feel with large AC vents for rear passengers mounted on the roof just before the second row of seats. The plastics of the car are also beige and light colour tone give feeling of added space. The dashboard design is also attractive with an integrated two-din audio system in the central console. There is a sporty gear knob like the SX4 and a 3 spoke steering wheel on the Ertiga which also happens to be beige in colour.

It comes with completely folding seats in the middle and last row to make a lot of interior luggage space. The middle seats can be moved down to allow space for rear passengers from both left and right side. It comes with steering mounted audio controls, Integrated audio system with USB, Aux input. Comes equipped with dual SRS airbags, ABS and EBD for safety. There is lot of small cubby holes and storage for water bottles at all three rows. The outside rear view mirrors come with turn indicators and are electrically adjustable from inside. There are four power windows and rear windshield is equipped with de-fogger, rear washer and wiper. The alloy wheel design, side profile, front grille and tail gate are all elegantly designed keeping in mind the modern outlook and aesthetics. The build quality of the car and the interior quality is better than average for a Maruti car. It seems to have all the right ingredients of a good MPV for 7 adults.

The K series petrol engine is 1.4 liter K14 VVTI engine which produces maximum power of 70KW or  95PS @ 6000 RPM and maximum torque of 130Nm @4000 RPM. It gives class leading fuel efficiency of 16.02KMPL. The diesel engine is turbocharged DDIS engine with 66KW or 90 PS of peak power @ 4000 RPM and 200Nm of torque @ 1750 RPM. It also delivers class leading mileage in its segments which is 20.77KMPL.

It has seating capacity of seven adults (2x3x2). This is first Indian compact MPV with 3 row of seats.
